Making the decision to charter a yacht during your travels to the U.S or the British Virgin Islands will provide you with access to some of the most beautiful and secluded beaches and locations in this part of the Caribbean. It is also the best way to get to all the major resorts, sightseeing locations and special activities throughout the Islands.
People traveling to the U.S Virgin Islands (USVI) or the British Virgin Islands (BVI) will find that private yacht charters are a relaxing way to see the islands, including some of the more remote locations that simply aren’t well-known or easily accessible by other means. Traveling by yacht also gives you the opportunity for a different perspective on the island, and some amazing opportunity to see marine life in the crystal clear waters that have made the Caribbean such an attraction.
To help people with some important facts about how to choose a yacht charter, we have put together these helpful tips and suggestions. If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to send us an email or give us a call, we would be happy to provide you with the information you need.
Finding a Charter Company
In years past, it wasn’t uncommon for your travel agent to arrange all aspects of travel, including a yacht charter for the days you stipulated during your USVI or BVI. Today, and with the ability to use the internet to find charter companies on your own, using a travel agent is less common. However, this also limited your choice as often the travel agents only worked with one or two yacht charters, and they were not always the best.
Today, your own internet searches can provide information about the company, the yachts and the tours available from any of the yacht charter companies in the islands. Depending on the size of the charter company they may be able to accommodate private requests for longer outings, and this will typically require additional negotiation on prices and services offered.
Rates and Inclusions
It would be impossible to talk about how to choose a yacht charter without mentioning rates and what is included in that rate. Most reputable companies will provide their rates up front on their website, with a description of where the tours originate and end and where you will visit along the way.
Look for the terms “all inclusive” in the package that will ensure there will be no additional fees for what would be considered standard services and amenities on the yacht. All this information should be provided in your contract as well, and be sure to read it carefully before signing and paying your deposit.
It is important to understand what the all-inclusive term means. Generally anything over the standard tour or route, or extra services requested by the guest, will result in additional charges. It is a good idea to talk to the yacht company in advance if you are considering any additional services, trips, travels or other requests to understand how these will impact the cost of the tour.
At Blue Mystic Charters, we offer several BVI, USVI and St. John charters and tours. These are both full and half day, and we can arrange for special pick up if needed. Typically our tours depart and arrive back to the National Park Dock, and we have a set schedule to help you to organize your stay.
Our tours are designed to show our guests some of the most amazing scenery you can imagine. While enjoying great food and drinks the beauty of the islands will come alive, and our staff will also be ready to answer questions and provide information and local insight into the various islands, cays and even the wildlife you see in the water and in the air.
Food and Beverages
Typically with food and beverages on an all-inclusive package this is part of the total cost. However, this is often based on a standard menu or meal selection for your trip. If you wish to have special types of food, there will be additional fees, or you may be able to bring your own supplies on board depending on the yacht.
We provide beer, wine, rum and soda as well as light fair on our half and full day trips as part of the services and the fees. We also give you the option to bring your own cocktails aboard, and we would be very happy to provide ice and storage for your items as part of our service.
Another very important consideration we have to talk about in how to choose a yacht charter is to carefully consider the number of people that will be traveling in your party.
Different yachts will have different options for the number of people and berths on the vessel. If you are planning an overnight charter, you will want to be comfortable, and our different sized yachts can accommodate from two to six guests with up to 3 berths with a master bedroom, a VIP berth and two twins.
You will enjoy our onboard dining area, air conditioning, sun pads, fresh water shower, state of the art sound system, and a range of different water lounges and floats to just enjoy the warm, tropical water while on board.
Our yachts have truly luxury accommodations. Our crew will be able to assist you while on board, and as we are based in St. John we really do know these islands, and we are happy to share information on the top restaurants and all the must see things that this beautiful part of the world has to offer.
It is important to take your time and choose the yacht charter company that really has customer service and quality at the heart of everything that it does. At Blue Mystic Charters, we have an outstanding reputation with our clients, and we look forward to making your next BVI and USVI vacation something truly special.
